AN EVENING OF POETRY At Fremont Library

Join us for a quarterly poetry series where local poets read from their work and discuss poetry with the audience. This evening’s featured readers are: Claudia Castro Luna, Catherine Bull, & Scott Ferry.

Claudia Castro Luna served as Seattle’s Civic Poet from 2015 to 2017 and has recently been chosen as Washington State’s new Poet Laureate. She is the author of Killing Marías (Two Sylvias Press) and This City, (Floating Bridge Press). Born in El Salvador, she came to the U.S. in 1981 and is the recipient of a King County 4Culture grant, and a Jack Straw Fellow.

Catherine Bull‘s poetry has appeared or is forthcoming from Bellingham Review, FIELD, Gyroscope Review, Literary Bohemian, The Operating System, and Poetry Northwest among other journals. She holds degrees in Poetry and English from Oberlin College and U.C. Davis and lives in the Ballard neighborhood of Seattle.

Scott Ferry helps Veterans heal as an RN. He attempts to be handsome enough for his wife and patient enough for his daughter. In former lives, he practiced acupuncture and was a high school teacher. Recent work has been featured in Radius Lit, Poetry Superhighway, and upcoming in Pontoon.


2018 Floating Bridge Chapbook Competition
Open Now!

We are now reading for our annual chapbook competition! Our annual competition is open to Washington State poets and is judged anonymously.

The winning poet receives a minimum of $500, 15 copies of a perfect-bound, archival-quality chapbook, local promotion, distribution of the chapbook, and a featured reading in the Seattle area. Three or four finalists receive $50 each and are also featured at the winner’s reading. In 2015, 2016, and 2017 we published 2 finalist’s chapbooks along with the winning chapbook.

All entrants are considered for inclusion in Pontoon Poetry and receive a copy of the winning chapbook. All poems chosen for Pontoon Poetry are considered for the Paula Jones Gardiner Memorial Award.
